Worship for week beginning 24th May 2020

Parenting God, as Jesus came from you

and returned to you, welcome us,

receive our waywardness and our disobedience,

receive our enthusiasm and our worship.

So let us worship God.

Rejoice! the Lord is King!
Your Lord and King adore;
mortals, give thanks and sing;
and triumph evermore:
lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
rejoice, again I say, rejoice.

Jesus, the Saviour, reigns,
the God of truth and love;
when he had purged our stains,
he took his seat above:
Lift up your heart, etc.
His kingdom cannot fail;
he rules o’er earth and heaven;
the keys of death and hell
are to our Jesus given:
Lift up your heart, etc.

He sits at God’s right hand
till all his foes submit,
and bow to his command,
and fall beneath his feet:
Lift up your heart, etc.

This is the day that the Lord has made.

All           Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Give us the joy of your saving help

All           and sustain us with your life-giving Spirit.

All           We have come together in the name of Christ

to offer our praise and thanksgiving,

to hear and receive God’s holy word,

to pray for the needs of the world,

and to seek the forgiveness of our sins,

that by the power of the Holy Spirit

we may give ourselves to the service of God. Amen

All;         For all the times we have failed

to acknowledge your presence, O God,

and have chosen our own paths,

forgotten our fellow travellers,

ignored your promptings, we are sorry.

Sorry that we have lost our way

from not listening to you or

following Christ’s example.

Forgive us, O God,

forgive us and set us

on the right path once again,

ready to recognise you in our midst,

ready to recognise your way

is the right way.

Free us to step out again

on the road of life,

ready to be loved and to love. Amen.

Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

READING  John 17 v1-11

1Jesus looked up to heaven and said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, 2since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. 5So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed. 6‘I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; 8for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. 10All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.’

Do you believe and trust in God the Father,
source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist?

All           We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son,
who took our human nature, died for us and rose again?
All           We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit,
who gives life to the people of God
and makes Christ known in the world?
All           We believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church.

All           This is our faith. We believe and trust in one God,
                Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Amen.

SONG               SEEK YE FIRST the kingdom of God

And His righteousness,

And all these things shall be added unto you,

Hallelu, hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelu, hallelujah!

Ask and it shall be given unto you,

Seek and ye shall find.

Knock and it shall be opened unto you,

Hallelu, hallelujah! …….

We shall not live by bread alone,

But by every word

That proceeds from the mouth of the Lord,

Hallelu, hallelujah!

Risen, ascended Lord, as we rejoice at your triumph,

fill your Church on earth with power and compassion,

that all who are estranged by sin may find forgiveness and know your peace,

to the glory of God the Father.

All           Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

All hail the power of Jesu’s name;
let angels prostrate fall;
bring forth the royal diadem
to crown him Lord of all.

Crown him, ye morning stars of light,
who fixed this floating ball;
now hail the strength of Israel’s might, and crown him Lord of all.

Crown him, ye martyrs of your God,
who from his altar call;
praise him whose way of pain ye trod,
and crown him Lord of all.

Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race,
ye ransomed of the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all.

Hail him, ye heirs of David’s line,
whom David Lord did call;
the God incarnate, man divine,
and crown him Lord of all.

Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget
the wormwood and the gall,
go spread your trophies at his feet,
and crown him Lord of all.

Let every tribe and every tongue
to him their hearts enthral,
lift high the universal song
and crown him Lord of all.

Glorying in the gift of God’s love go out into God’s world,

strengthened in the knowledge that you are God’s own.

Live in unity and in peace, share the message of God’s kingdom,

initiate grace, and in the living of our lives

may God be glorified this day, and always.

The blessing of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirt be with you now and always. Amen
